His research focus is on the interaction between urban traffic operations and public health. Ghassan teaches traffic control, in particular, congestion and sustainability in transport systems. He earned a doctoral degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. Epidemiology and Public Health School of Population Health The University of Auckland New Zealand Shanthi leads the University’s Trauma and Injury Research Group and a multi-disciplinary research program focusing on road traffic injuries, transport systems, disability and trauma care. Her research supported by the HRC, NHMRC, the Wellcome Trust, and other funding agencies includes collaborative projects in New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region. She serves on the editorial boards of Injury Prevention and the Journal of Adolescent Health, and is a member of the Lancet Commission on Child Health. A paediatrician and public health physician by training, she has an enduring commitment to addressing disparities in health and wellbeing across the lifespan and developing research capacity in less-resourced settings. |

Senior Research Fellow Department of Preventive and Social Medicine University of Otago New Zealand Rebecca leads the Transport, Mobility and Health Research Team and her main research interests are road safety, driver licence and transport policy, and injury epidemiology. She is Principal Investigator for two HRC funded projects: a prospective cohort study of older drivers and family (2018-2022) and a mixed method project with older drivers, families and GPs (2015-2018). She is a co-investigator on several young driver projects: Australian policing theory and GDL compliance; NZ Police young offender licensing programme evaluation; and DRIVE NSW young driver cohort relinkage project. Professor (Research) Monash University Accident Research Centre Australia Jude is Director of the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC), a world leading centre for injury prevention research, graduate education and training. MUARC's research is interdisciplinary and systems-based, delivering real-world solutions to reduce the incidence and impact of injury across transport, workplace, home and community sectors. Jude leads the Behavioural Science for Transport Safety research theme at MUARC and her Team is recognized as the leading research group in Australia on the safety of older and impaired drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and child passengers. Their research has been influential in shaping policy and practice in the management of safe mobility of vulnerable road users in Australia and internationally. Jude manages several international collaborations including the Ozcandrive older driver cohort study conducted in collaboration with the Canadian-led project, Candrive - the first longitudinal study to track real-world driving and health of older Australians. Research Fellow Sydney School of Public Health, University of Sydney Australia Mel is part of a collaborative of international researchers from five universities working on a Welcome Trust project (CUSSH) to investigate complex urban systems sustainability and health to inform urban transformation. She is an evaluation specialist with a keen interest in transport and health; with experience in evaluating physical activity and transport interventions. Sr. Research Scholar, Center for Infrastructure, Transportation & Environment Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute United States Sam is currently working with the Center for Transportation Infrastructure and Environment (CTIE) as a Senior Research Scholar. He is a member of a research team that examines governance of environmental health in six global cities, and studies the forces that influence decisions that impact environmental health. He also is a team member of a study that is developing performance measures for evaluating social media use in public transit agencies. Prior to his work with the Center, Sam served at the New York State Department of Transportation for 30 years in different capacities including Head of the Research Coordination and Technology Transfer unit of the Transportation Research & Development Bureau. His extensive research and management activities spanned several departmental divisions, including Environmental Analysis, Policy, Transit, Project Development, and Economic Development. Founding Co-Director and Associate Professor Population Well-being and Environment Research Lab (PowerLab) University of Wollongong, School of Health and Society Australia Xiaoqi’s research focuses on the role of urban green space quantity and quality for child health and on maternal health. The findings from some of this research were integrated into the American College of Preventive Medicine’s Continuing Medical Education program. Xiaoqi’s research has been cited by the World Health Organization and has contributed to local, state and national dialogue on the restoration and conservation of green space and tree canopy to make cities more liveable and to advance population well-being. Research Fellow, Health Services Monash University Accident Research Centre Australia Shannon is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Insurance Work and Health Group. With a background in Biomedical Engineering, Shannon chose to pursue her doctoral studies at the Monash University Accident Research Centre investigating injury-causing hazards at fitness facilities. Throughout her studies and employment, Shannon has worked with internal researchers and external stakeholders in the areas of injury epidemiology, injury prevention and injury rehabilitation. Her research interests include recovery from work-related and transport injuries, in particular return to work and how compensation schemes can impact on recovery. Co-director of He Kainga Oranga/Housing and Health Research Programme Department of Public Health University of Otago, Wellington New Zealand Michael is currently leading the Home Injury Prevention Intervention, a major randomised controlled trial funded by the NZ Health Research Council that is looking at the effectiveness of repairs to home injury hazards as a means to reduce home injury. He is a principal investigator in two major research programmes hosted by the University of Otago, Wellington - He Kainga Oranga and the New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities. Prior to starting her own management consulting firm Jennifer had a progressive career in the public sector and has overseen policy, administrative and operational programs in the justice and road safety environments. Jennifer is past President of the Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals; a national organization dedicated to enhancing road safety by providing access to multi-disciplinary information, research and networking opportunities. Secretary, Institute of Transportation Engineers Australia David has over 30 years experience in traffic and transport engineering through his work at VicRoads. David left VicRoads in 2012 and formed a consulting firm called Traffinity. David’s main interests are traffic control devices – traffic signals, signs, markings and street lighting. His last position at VicRoads was Manager-Road and Traffic Standards where he was responsible for policy, standards and guidelines for all manner of traffic management issues. He is currently lecturing at Swinburne University in Transport Engineering and undertaking many varied projects around the country. |

Department of Public Health University of Ontago Wellington New Zealand Caroline is a Public Health Medicine Specialist and epidemiologist. President, Institute of Transportation Engineers Australia Nick has worked in the road safety and traffic engineering field for around 40 years. Most of this has been at VicRoads and its various predecessors. During his final years at VicRoads, Nick was developing road safety engineering policy and guidelines. He carried out the research and initiated the 40 km/h speed limits in strip shopping centres and 50 km/hr rural towns programs. He is semi-retired and occasionally provides consulting services in the areas of traffic engineering and road safety to Local Government, VicRoads and MUARC. Nick joined the ITEANZ Executive Board in 2009 and was Secretary from 2010 to 2013. He was elected President in 2014. |

Department Head, Epidemiology and Biostatistics University of Auckland New Zealand A medical graduate, with postgraduate qualifications in public health and epidemiology, Alistair's research focus is tobacco, environmental health and the social determinants of health. He co-authored the writing of the health section of the 5th assessment report (AR5) for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the lead author for the Australia and New Zealand chapter in AR6 which is underway in 2019. He is working with colleagues from China Centres for Disease Control on environmental health issues in that country, and in New Zealand with studies to test the effects of street changes on walking and cycling.
